As we discussed in class today, teaching is a blend of both art and science. Teachers use their artistic abilities to create a learning environment that is enjoyable, adapt to different learning styles, and develope relationships with the students as individuals. Teaching is a science because of the knowledge base required, the utilization of proven teaching methods, and utilization of accurate grading systems. A good teacher should be able to blend the art and science of teaching into their classroom to ensure quality learning by the students.
Prior to our class meeting, I had never viewed teaching in this manner. This seems surprising to me now that I can clearly see how teaching in a blend of the two. As mentioned earlier, even if a teacher has an immense knowledge of the subject, our scientific viewpoint, if he or she cannot find a way to relay it or explain it to the students, no learning will take place. Yet, on the otherhand, even if an artistic person that has a strong love for students, without planning skills and strategies, the teacher will not effectively educate the students. A combination of these two aspects of teaching will provide the best results for the students. -Emilee Self
I never really thought of teaching outside of the fact that you need to work well with others. I realized that teaching is so much more. When we discussed this topic in class I believed that teaching was an art and a science. Discussing this in class helped me to confirm my answer. Personally I believe that I am very artistic and I am scientific as well. I love to be creative and I know that will shine in my classroom one day! Also I am very organized and I know that my students will see that side of me as well.
